Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor is a role playing game published in 1999 by 3DO and developed by New World Computing, and is the predecessor of Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer and the sequel to Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven.
Might & Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
The game is very much the same as Might and Magic VI. It uses the same graphics engine (only adding hardware acceleration, which offered little improvement over the software engine), nearly completely the same audio effects (but introduces new musical tracks), the same skill & combat system (apart from the addition of Grand Master expertise in skills) and the same nonlinearity.
Two of the side-quests involve the minigame Arcomage. The first is to obtain a set of Arcomage cards and once this has been done, the player may play Arcomage in all of the taverns in Erathia. The second is to win a game of Arcomage at each of these taverns.
Might & Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
This game has a GameSpot score of 8.4 (on a scale of 1 to 10) and was considered to be an excellent entry in the series, albeit not up to par with Might and Magic V-VI.
There are two unique twists in the game which were not found in the previous. First, the player finds an artifact coveted by two warring factions, and has the opportunity to give it to one side or the other. The choice will make the player a subject of the favoured faction. The player may also choose to hand over the artifact to the Arbiter of the dispute, which will later seal the independence of the player's realm. Second, the player is ultimately forced to choose between serving Light or Darkness. Once the choice is made the game display permanently changes color to either white or black.
Both paths have unique classes -- for example, a Crusader can become a Hero (light) or a Villain (dark) -- and certain quests are only accessible to one side or the other. If Light is chosen, then the guards in the Darkness-aligned towns become hostile towards the player, and vice-versa. A few playable characters from Might and Magic III, with the same names and updated portraits as those in the Might and Magic III starting party, also make an appearance in this game.
